All sales and download proceeds from Alameda (acoustic) will be donated to Caring in Bristol, a charity working to help homeless and other vulnerable people in my old hometown of Bristol.
"Silky vocals over gritty edges"
Singer songwriter, folk/pop/punk/indie soul
Lucy Spraggan, Tash Sultana, Laura Misch
As a young child learning cello, piano and later singing, StanLei ('stan-lay') loved her dad’s cassettes of Billie Holliday, the Beach Boys, Queen and the Eagles – and still loves sad songs and angelic harmonies. Drawing on folky lyricism, classic protest pop vibes, and the yearning yet playful vocals of jazz and blues, StanLei is a singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based between London (UK) and Toulouse (France).
She began singing and songwriting at 14, and at 16 was creating vocal choruses for friends making underground UK hip hop and early grime. Aged 18 she began teaching herself the guitar and moved to her adopted hometown of Bristol, where she sang with various local bands. 2015 marked the beginning of 4 years of travelling extensively as a nomadic seasonal worker, developing her songwriting and connecting with new friends and fans from around the world through music.
Her debut EP BASSLESS was recorded with producer and drummer Sam Bradley (Sonic Sculpture Recording, Hawaii). A stripped-down, siren-voiced acoustic offering, featuring acclaimed NYC guitarist Rotem Sivan, BASSLESS was released independently in April 2019. In December 2019, a self-produced acoustic single, Alameda, followed - described by Come Here Floyd as "poetic and poignant. The conscious folk vibes... ‘Alameda’ is something real and grand."
After completing a second European tour in Belgium and Germany at the end of 2019 StanLei is currently working on her new live show and self-produced debut album.
